ART SUBMISSION FAQ
ART SUBMISSION F.A.Q.
WHAT QUALIFIES ME TO BE AN OFFROUTE ARTIST?
You are someone 16 - 24 years old who makes and experiments with art. Even if you are brand new to art and are afraid to call yourself an artist, we're here to support you , even if you are only submitting a piece or two.
We primarily work in Pittsburgh, PA but our artists are from different parts of the country-- Chicago to Burlington, Pittsburgh to New Haven, NYC to Auburn. Click here to learn more about some of our artists.
WHAT TYPE OF ART DO YOU ACCEPT?
Offroute accepts art of many different shapes, sizes, and mediums. Whether you have old projects lying around or want to start something new, we hope to give you a reason to connect your original art with people across the country. We make art selections based on style, originality, our current inventory, subject matter, and quality.
We do NOT not accept jewelry, clothing, fan art, or any art potentially dangerous or hazardous. Art must be the artist's original art.
HOW DO SALES WORK?
All art is sold on consignment. Artists set their prices and receive 100% of that price when a piece sells.
HOW WILL OFFROUTE GET MY ART?
If you live in the Pittsburgh, PA, New York, NY, or New Haven, CT regions you can arrange to drop your art off. If you are unable to do so or live in another part of the US, you can ship selected art to us (artists will be reimbursed up to $25 for shipping and must email a picture of receipt for reimbursement).
WHY DOES OFFROUTE NEED MY ART?
Once we receive your art, we photograph it and list it on the website, along with the information you have given us to share (i.e.: title, price, medium, etc.). We participate in many markets, pop-ups, displays, and gallery shows, so your art will be viewed in-person by lots of people. It also guarantees that once a sale goes through we are able to arrange for pick up or ship it within one business day.
HOW LONG DO YOU KEEP MY ART FOR? WHAT HAPPENS IF IT DOESN'T SELL?
You and Offroute will agree to how long Offroute will keep your art-- most artists agree anywhere from 2 to 6 months. If your art does not sell during that time, we will email you to see if you want us to give your art back or if you want to keep it on the website longer. It's totally up to you!
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MY ART SELLS?
As soon as Offroute receives payment from a customer, we send you payment via Paypal.
DOES IT COST ME ANYTHING TO PARTICIPATE?
No. Participation is free. Our mission is to support artists, plain and simple. If you want to help out, there are ways to volunteer your time as well!
WHAT IF I HAVE ART FOR SALE ON OTHER WEBSITES?
That's fine! In fact, we are happy to share those links on our social media as well!
HOW DO I ACTUALLY SUBMIT WORK TO YOU? WHAT IF I HAVE QUESTIONS FIRST?
You can find the art submission form at the top of this page. Please email offrouteart@gmail.com if you have any questions!
WHY DO YOU HAVE AN AGE RESTRICTION?
There are lots of great art opportunities for children but not all young, or emerging adults, have the same access and resources to support their artistic endeavors as they get older. Offroute focuses on this population since it can be both a really wonderful but also hard time in life. We are here to support this population and are here for artists of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences.
